The initiative included the following core areas:
- Organizational and engineering leadership across a 350+ person department
- Cloud migration and microservices platform modernization
- Data and observability transformation for high-volume systems
- Security and identity management for scalable digital operations
- Strategic procurement and vendor ecosystem selection
In practical terms, the work was structured across the following initiatives:
- Orchestrated a technical transformation for 12 distinct engineering areas, ensuring alignment across 350+ engineers
- Facilitated executive-level decision-making by coordinating with principal architects and delivery managers to unify technical roadmaps and resource planning
- Maintained transparency with the steering committee, reporting progress, risks, and milestones directly to the CTO and CIO
- Modernized the technical stack through adoption of a Kubernetes-based runtime environment, automated CI/CD pipelines with ArgoCD, and a microservices architecture
- Implemented a Data Mesh, Kafka event streaming, and a full Grafana stack (Loki, Mimir, Tempo) to revolutionize observability and analytics
- Strengthened security and connectivity by deploying a new IAM platform (Janssen), OAuth 2.0 flows, and Kong API Management
- Managed a 500+ MSEK cloud platform procurement process, ensuring proposals met strict technical and legal benchmarks
- Selected a vendor ecosystem (GCP) to support cloud-native operations, high-volume data products, and long-term scalability
A fully modernized, cloud-native, and secure platform environment was successfully delivered, enabling scalable digital operations, advanced observability, and improved alignment across all engineering teams at Svenska Spel.
