Open-banking platform

Pan-European open-banking platform that enables banks, fintechs and startups across Europe to develop data-driven financial services working with companies such as Paypal or Lydia.

Country:
Sweden, France
Industry:
FinTech
Technologies:
Java, AWS, Bazel, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Docker, MySQL

The platform is connected to over 3,000 banks and financial institutions across 18 countries including United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Germany and focuses on offering Account Information Service (AIS) - enabling account aggregation, account check and bank statements downloading; as well as and Payment Initiation Service (PIS) - enabling initiation of bank-to-bank payments for consumers.

Through one API, the open-banking platform allows customers to access aggregated financial data, initiate payments, enrich transactions and build personal finance management tools.

We were engaged in developing new and improve existing API integrations for both account information services and payment initiation services.

Task

During our engagement, we worked on both developing new but also improving existing API connections with banks with the focus on the French market. We were engaged in working on connections with APIs of French banks including Société Générale, CIC and LCL.

The goal was to develop new connections with French banks to increase the coverage of account aggregation and account check products, as well as to improve the conversion rate of payment initiation service to support rollout of a strategic customer. The team involved consisted of 6 backend developers.

The task included a number of challenges that the team had to cope with including dependency and slow responsiveness of the French banks regarding API connections for both AIS and PIS, outdated documentation not showing the latest releases, lack of English documentation and communication, unoptimised redirect flows build by French banks limiting the optimisation of conversion rates.

The team managed to successfully manouver through the difficulties thanks to continuos focus on the targets, and managed to reach its goals despite having to work with tight deadlines and high pressure.

Results (benefits for the client)

During our engagement, we were able to achieve significant results impacting the platform’s product in France including 3 new API connections for account aggregation and transactions improving coverage of French banks, optimisation of payment connections and flows which resulted in an increase in conversion rates, implementation of app-to-app redirection for account aggregation and payment initiation services for a number of banks.

We were also able to support the launch of payment initiation product and rollout of a strategic customer as well as launch of major client for account check product.

Codepole helped with the launch of our current platform. Implemented features and products enabled us to rapidly scale our existing Swedish business and expand to new markets.
